Today I would like to educate you on deferments! There are several reasons to defer your student loans. The first one that everyone seems to be aware of is to go back to school at least half time.

There are others such as the Unemployment Deferment, the Economic Hardship Deferment, and the Income Based Repayment Plan.

Unemployment Deferment is available for a maximum of 36 months and must be reapplied for every 6 months.

To qualify you must:

  • Be diligently seeking but unable to find full time employment in any field or at any salary or responsibility level.
  • Be registered with a public or private employment agency.

or

  • Be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Economic Hardship Deferment is available for a maximum of 36 months and must be reapplied for every 12 months.

To qualify you must:

  • Be receiving federal or state public assistance such as TANF, SSI, food stamps, or state general assistance .

or

  • Serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

or

  • Be working full-time and your monthly income does not exceed the larger of (A) the Federal Minimum Wage or (B) 150% of the Poverty Line income for my family size and state*.

(A) Federal Monthly Wage Rate: $1256.67

(B) 150% of Poverty Line Continuous States and District of Columbia $1353.75 per month then $467.50 for each additional family member.

Income Based Repayment is a repayment plan for the major types of federal student loans that makes your payments affordable to you based on your family size and income level.

To qualify you must:

  • Have high student loan debt as compared to your income and family size.

There are many websites and calculators available online to help you determine is you qualify. Check them out! This website will help you determine if you qualify http://www.ibrinfo.org/calculator.php. But the people who know the most about deferments are your servicers. You know those folks who keep blowing up your phone about your late and/or possibly past due accounts. Call them,  mention the one that applies to your situation and maybe you can lighten your financial load, temporarily. But ignoring the situation will not help. It will just lead to wage garnishments and confiscated state and federal tax returns.

But before you do that, please take sometime to call your lender and explain your situation.

There are many reasons to put your student loans into forbearance or deferment. Here are some examples:

  • Attending at  least  half-time  study  at  a  post secondary  school
  • If you are unable to find full-time employment
  • Economic hardships
  • Active duty in the military
  • Disability

The repercussions for non payment including are quite serious and may include:

  • National credit bureaus can be notification, which will harm your credit rating, making it hard to buy a car or a house.
  • Being ineligible for additional federal student aid if you decide to return to school.
  • State and federal income tax refunds can be withheld and applied toward the amount you owe.
  • You will have to pay late fees and collection costs on top of what you already owe.
  • You can be sued.

This certification will cover superficial myofascia of the whole body and basic myofacial and deep tissue techniques for specific areas. . Participants will learn how to prepare the body for work in deeper tissues, such as Iliopsoas, QL and Scalenes, and to safely work deeper muscles. Hands on applications are combined with active or passive movement by client.  Participants will learn a 3 series of myofascial bodywork covering the whole body. This work may bring relief of chronic muscular tension, improve posture and function of the body in movement! Postural assessment is used to determine where the work is most needed.

A Little About the Instructor…..

Magnus Eklund LMT 144(MS), BCSI is a structural integrator, massage therapist & yoga teacher from Sweden. He has studied anatomy/physiology, and therapeutic movement at Lillsved Sports Institute for Higher Learning in Stockholm, Sweden. He was selected an official member of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics athletes medical team, as a sports massage therapist. He has studied myofascial techniques, and specific myofascial lengthening in Sweden with Dr of Naprapathy Johan Paldanius. Magnus is board certified in Structural Integration (500 hours)–the work of Dr Ida P Rolf, as taught by, Tom Myers. He has worked with ATP tour tennis professionals, and Olympic athletes. He has taught massage continuing education workshops since 1999 in cities like New Orleans, Metairie, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Monroe, LA, Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga TN, Mobile AL, Jackson, Gulfport, Biloxi, Southaven, Tupelo, Hattiesburg & Meridian MS. The class was divided up into teams and given different eras, the assignment was to research the definition of beauty in that time then on a mannequin demonstrate a hairstyle from that time.

The research and project that I enjoyed was the information provided by Shawdia, Linda, Delores, & Lauren about the Ancient Chinese.

Ten Criteria for Beauty in Ancient China

  1. Black Hair
  2. Hair loosely coiled to give appearance of height.
  3. Finely shaped eyebrows.
  4. Large bright expressive eyes.
  5. Red lips
  6. White teeth.
  7. Graceful arms & fingers
  8. Slender waist & fair skin.
  9. Tiny Feet
  10. Fragrant Body.

Then there is the story of the Four Great Beauties, who lived in four different dynasties, hundreds of years apart.

Xi Shi was so beautiful fish would forget to swim and sink away from the surface of the water.

Wang Zhaojun was so beautiful her appearance would cause birds to fall from flight.

Diaochan was so luminously lovely that the moon itself would shy away from embarrassment.

Yang Guifei had a face that put all the flowers to shame.

The inspiration varied from art, animals, and the Mardi Gras season! Lillian created two beautiful Mardi Gras masks.Miriah was inspired by the Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh print in the office. Brittney definitely was inspired by some big cats.Courtney mirrored the Japanese Harajuku style.Raelyn’s make up reflected Jack Skellington from the Disney movie The Nightmare Before Christmas.

All this talent and style right here in Mobile, Alabama. They definitely demonstrated what they can do with a make up brush. Great work and one more reason I love what I do and our students do too.
